Michael Macri took the LaSalle mayoral office from incumbent Crystal Meloche by a margin of 40 votes. Macri received 5,051 votes to Meloche’s 5,016, ending her time as the city’s first female mayor. Shaun Dass placed third with 3,197 votes.
The election concluded a campaign defined by a 40-vote swing. Macri told reporters that residents sought a mix of stability and new direction. He noted that the 40-vote difference indicated voters wanted continuity alongside change. He credited his campaign’s positive message and vision for the outcome.
Affordability dominated the campaign trail. Macri stated that voters repeatedly raised concerns about costs. He pledged to flatten taxes for 2027 before reevaluating each line item. He also promised to reevaluate the city’s economic development component.
Meloche accepted the narrow defeat with peace of mind. She described the loss as disappointing but believed the town would be in good hands. She attributed the outcome to concerns beyond taxes and noted that misinformation and negativity played roles during the campaign period.
In her final remarks, Meloche advised her successor to remember that every decision affects the city’s 37,000 residents. She emphasized that the job is to move the town forward for all citizens, not just the frequent communicators. She urged the new mayor to do the best he can for the entire population.
The new council will prioritize reviewing how taxpayer dollars are spent. Macri plans to rethink the administration structure and create an economic development team. He intends to examine every capital expenditure to distinguish between wants and needs. The certified results are scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 27.
Other races saw incumbent Michael Akpata re-elected as deputy mayor with 6,231 votes. Tory McKay finished second with 4,385 votes, and Simon Jacques placed third with 1,949. Five councillors joined the new body: Mike Seguin with 6,090 votes, Jeff Renaud with 5,894, Ivana White with 5,893, Brad Krewench with 5,014, and Anita Riccio-Spagnuolo with 4,778.
