Philadelphia Eagles fans watched their team lose another close contest on Sunday night, as the squad fell 27-10 to the Washington Commanders in Landover, Maryland. The defeat extends Philadelphia's losing streak to six games, a run that has left the team with a 2-6 record entering the final two months of the season. The Eagles led by 10 points early in the first quarter, but that advantage vanished as Washington took control of the game's rhythm.
The offensive line received the lowest grade for its performance, earning a D-. The unit allowed quarterback Tanner McKee to be sacked five times for a total of 35 yards. Communication issues against blitzes were a recurring problem, and back-to-back penalties by Markel Bell and Jordan Mailata in the fourth quarter further complicated the team's drive. Despite a chance to maintain the same lineup for the second straight week, the line failed to create adequate holes for the running game.
McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards but also threw one interception and fumbled the ball once. The turnover occurred when he was sacked in the pocket, a play that stalled a promising drive near field goal range. While he managed a 15-yard scramble to convert a third down, the overall pocket presence was inconsistent. His grade for the evening was a D, raising questions about whether the team will turn to backup Joe Milton if the losing trend continues.
Running back Saquon Barkley played through hamstring and back injuries, finishing with 13 carries for 30 yards and one touchdown. His score on a direct snap was the only touchdown for Philadelphia. Elijah Mitchell added 34 yards on 11 carries. The Eagles are missing healthy options at running back, and Barkley's ability to sustain his performance is a concern for the coaching staff.
On the defensive side, the Eagles saw some improvement in the front seven. The defensive line earned a C-, having played better than they did against the Dallas Cowboys the previous week. Jalen Carter recorded five tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup. However, the unit allowed Washington to gain 135 rushing yards and only managed two sacks of Jayden Daniels for 13 yards. The defensive line is expected to be the strength of the unit, but it has not consistently delivered that result.
In the secondary, Drew Mukuba led the group with nine tackles, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble. An interception was initially called but was nullified by a penalty. The Commanders, playing without wide receiver Terry McLaurin who is out for the season, found success through Treylon Burks, Antonio Williams, and Stefon Diggs. The Eagles' defense earned a D+ for the effort.
Special teams contributed to the loss with a D grade. Punter Braden Mann averaged 44.2 yards per punt over five attempts, keeping three inside the 20-yard line. However, the unit gave up a 44-yard kick return to start the game and a 27-yard return that set up a field goal opportunity. Kicker Jake Elliott made his first kicks since the Jacksonville game, converting a 40-yard attempt in the first quarter. His 36-yard kick in the fourth quarter was good, but a 41-yard attempt hit the left upright after a false start penalty on Jordan Mailata.
Head coach Nick Sirianni's offense and Vic Fangio's defense both struggled with execution. The coaching staff received an F for the overall game plan. While the team displayed effort, the lack of attention to detail proved costly. The Eagles must address these mechanical issues to stabilize their season before the schedule tightens further.
