The Baltimore Ravens will shift kicking responsibilities to Jake Moody for Thursday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Jesse Minter said on Monday that second-year kicker Tyler Loop is expected to be placed on injured reserve. Minter stated that at this point, Moody will handle the team's field goals and extra points at M&T Bank Stadium.
Minter described Loop's physical condition as a minor issue that developed into a more persistent problem. Loop, a product of Arizona, struggled during Sunday's 36-10 defeat by the Buffalo Bills. He failed to convert a 34-yard attempt in the second quarter of that contest.
The Ravens' current kicking unit has shown inconsistent range this season. Loop has made 13 of his 17 field goal attempts, including two of five tries from distances of 40 to 49 yards. He successfully connected from 57 yards and 64 yards, with the longer kick securing a victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Brazil.
Loop's performance is closely watched after a critical miss in the previous season. He failed to convert a 44-yard field goal in the final seconds of last year's regular-season finale. That error prevented the Ravens from claiming the division title and eliminated their playoff chances.
Moody, a former third-round selection by the San Francisco 49ers, was signed to the Ravens' practice squad on October 19 for the second time. The Michigan graduate holds a career record of 64 successful field goals out of 82 attempts. His career-long distance is 57 yards, and he converted six of eight attempts during three playoff games with San Francisco.
