Lincoln Park: Animatronic Chucky Stolen From Front Lawn

Lincoln Park residents use front yards to build community before the holiday season begins. On Sunday morning, that community lost a centerpiece when an animatronic Chucky doll vanished from a private lawn.

Denice Greer heard a dragging noise around 7 a.m. and ran to her door. She saw a person jump into a large red Dodge RAM pickup truck holding the prop. The theft was captured on surveillance video.

Greer has lived at the property for nearly 20 years. She stated that this is the first time she has felt violated on her own property. She filed a police report with Lincoln Park police for the $300 loss.

The display serves more than a decorative purpose. Greer said neighborhood children look forward to interacting with the decorations. One neighbor mentioned that her autistic son loves the setup and that she drives by daily. Other children who are blind or deaf visit to touch and feel the props.

Greer described the neighborhood as close-knit. She said the joy she gains comes from neighbors thanking her for putting out the decorations. She noted that the stolen doll was a favorite attraction for the area.

The suspect fled in the red Dodge RAM. Greer asked anyone with information to review the surveillance footage. She pleaded for the return of the doll, noting that it was not just for her but for the children who enjoy the display annually.

Lincoln Park police are investigating the theft. Residents with information are encouraged to call 313-381-1800.
