Sosie Bacon has secured a leading role in the upcoming MGM+ series 'The Black Tapes.' She will act alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who was previously confirmed for the project. The series adapts a well-known horror podcast of the same name.
Production for the eight-episode first season is scheduled to start in January in Vancouver. The story centers on Dr. Richard Strand, a psychiatrist played by Coster-Waldau, and Alex Regan, a physicist played by Bacon. According to the official logline, Strand has a mysterious past while Regan is described as obsessed and relentless. The two characters team up to investigate paranormal cases, including hauntings, possessions, and disappearances, which are documented on the titular black tapes.
As the investigation progresses, the characters discover a hidden occult world and a centuries-old apocalyptic conspiracy. The character description notes that Regan is a methodical scientist who joins the team as a debunker. However, she soon faces mounting evidence that suggests the mysteries involve forces beyond the natural world.
Bacon recently finished filming Season 2 of 'Scarpetta' for Amazon. Her television credits include 'Mare of Easttown,' 'Narcos: Mexico,' and '13 Reasons Why.' On the big screen, she starred in the films 'Smile' and 'Smile 2.' She is set to appear in the horror-comedy 'Family Movie,' which is directed by and stars her parents, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon.
Terry Miles and Paul Bae created the source podcast and will serve as writers and executive producers for the series. Kearie Peak of Peak Pictures, along with John Rogers and Jennifer Court of Kung Fu Monkey Productions, are also executive producers. MGM+ Studios will handle production. Bacon is represented by Gersh, Range Media Partners, and Schreck Rose.
