Louisiana Prison Post Achieves Zero Recidivism Among Incarcerated Veterans

Incarcerated veterans in Louisiana who participate in American Legion Post 432 have not returned to prison. The organization reports a zero percent recidivism rate for members of the post, which operates inside the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center.

The facility holds the distinction of being the first prison-based American Legion post in the state. The program relies on peer-led mentorship to help participants rebuild their lives and regain a sense of purpose while serving their sentences.

Supporters of the initiative state that the structure breaks the cycle of re-incarceration. The post provides a community framework that emphasizes discipline and personal accountability for those serving time.

Beyond the veteran program, the segment explores how art therapy assists individuals with memory loss. Research from the National Library of Medicine indicates that drawing and painting can stimulate memories in patients with dementia and other neurological conditions.

The report also covers a 2025 survey finding that one in six women missed or may have missed a routine cancer screening in the past year. In response, a South Carolina salon has partnered with a statewide health initiative to discuss screening with clients during appointments.

A final story features Blueberry, a one-year-old dog, and Meadow, a ten-month-old cat. Rachel Clarke adopted both animals after they met at the Last Chance Animal Rescue veterinary hospital in Waldorf, Maryland. Clarke describes Blueberry as a snuggler and notes that the dog follows the cat everywhere.
