Milan Collapse Before Inter Derby

AC Milan lost 4-2 to Bologna at San Siro on Wednesday. The defeat occurred just 72 hours before the team faces Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

The match saw a complete reversal in the second half. Milan entered the break with a 2-1 lead but conceded three goals after the restart. This result places the club seven points behind Serie A leaders Inter and Lazio.

Bologna took an early lead through Samuel Mbangula. AC Milan responded with two goals from Alphadjo Cisse. Cisse has emerged as a standout performer for the club this season. However, an own goal by Davide Bartesaghi shifted momentum back to the visitors. Mbangula scored two more times to complete a hat trick and seal the 4-2 victory.

Coach Ruben Amorim cited fatigue and a crowded schedule for the second-half collapse. The former Manchester United manager has been in charge for two months. He noted that the team struggled to maintain their pressing style for the full 90 minutes due to limited rotation options. Amorim stated that when the team stops playing their preferred style, they suffer.

Amorim acknowledged the squad's need for consistency. He said the team missed a chance to equalize through Camarda. He emphasized that the coaching staff must make the most of a short turnaround period before the next match. The team will decide on their selection and preparation plan the day after the Bologna game.

The upcoming derby against Inter carries heavy implications for Amorim's job security. Club owner Gerry Cardinale replaced the coaching and sporting hierarchy in the summer. A strong performance against Inter could stabilize the club's position. A poor result could lead to further changes in the management structure.
