Twelve innings. That was the duration of the extra-inning baseball game in which the Tampa Bay Rays escaped World Series elimination. The Brewers held a 3-3 tie into the late frames, but Ben Williamson singled to end the deadlock in the 12th. The hit forced a fifth game, keeping the Rays' bid for their first Commissioner's Trophy alive. Both teams face a short turnaround before the next first pitch, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Colts moved two franchise cornerstones in separate transactions. The team traded six-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks. In return, Indianapolis received a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. This deal marked the beginning of a major shift in the Colts' roster strategy. Seattle secured a key offensive lineman for a modest price, strengthening its front line for the remainder of the season.

Indianapolis also sent two-time All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers paid a 2027 fourth-round pick to acquire Buckner, who returns to the franchise that originally drafted him. The Colts secured a better return than the compensatory fifth-round pick they would have received if Buckner left as a free agent. These trades signal a clear rebuilding phase for Indianapolis, with running back Jonathan Taylor potentially facing similar scrutiny.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without Anthony Edwards for up to two months. The team announced that Edwards requires arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. He had played through the injury since the previous season but opted for the procedure now to maximize his availability later this year. The decision comes just under 24 hours after Edwards scored 47 points in a standout performance against the Utah Jazz.

Utah will also miss its star center, Jaren Jackson Jr., for at least six weeks. Jackson suffered a torn medial collateral ligament and does not require surgery. His absence presents a major challenge for the Jazz's rim protection. The team faces a difficult stretch in its pursuit of a postseason berth without its primary interior defender.

The CFP selection committee faces a complex decision regarding the SEC. Projections suggest between three and five SEC teams will make the playoff. Georgia remains the conference's top team despite a recent upset loss and a bye week. The race behind Georgia is tight, with Kentucky, LSU, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss all considered strong contenders. This depth contrasts with the Big Ten, where several top teams are underperforming preseason expectations.

The Vikings hold the top spot in the NFL Power Rankings as the last undefeated team. The team leads the league in scoring defense but ranks 23rd in scoring offense. Quarterback Kyler Murray's passing game, currently ranked 29th in yards per game, must improve to sustain this record. The Vikings face a brutal four-game schedule in the coming month that will test their depth and offensive consistency.
