A dispute over the movement of illegal goods across the Irish border came to a head on Halloween when Revenue officers halted a vehicle at Dublin Port. The stop resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of herbal cannabis and the immediate arrest of the driver.

The intervention relied on routine profiling procedures that flagged the vehicle, which had recently crossed from France. During the search, officers located 21.2 kilograms of cannabis concealed within the car. Revenue estimates the street value of the seized material at more than 296,000 euros.

Gardaí from Store Street Garda Station took the driver into custody following the discovery. He remains in detention while investigators examine the details of the suspected importation operation. The case illustrates the collaborative framework between Revenue and An Garda Síochána, which targets organized crime groups engaged in the import, sale, and distribution of illegal drugs in Ireland.

Open questions persist regarding the supply chain behind this specific shipment. Investigators are currently working to identify the origin of the drugs, their intended destination within Ireland, and the criminal networks responsible for the logistics.

Revenue has reiterated its call for the public and businesses to report information on drug smuggling. Citizens can submit details confidentially through the Revenue hotline at 1800 295 295. The agency stated this seizure is part of a continuous effort to disrupt trafficking operations before illegal substances reach local communities.
