Ken Kober, president of the Cincinnati chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, reported that two officers sustained injuries while attempting to disperse a large gathering in the Corryville neighborhood early Sunday morning. The incident occurred when the police tried to manage a disorderly crowd of approximately 2,000 people.
Kober described the situation as a chaotic environment where the officers were caught off guard. One officer received treatment at the scene, while the second was transported to a hospital. Both individuals are now recovering at home. Kober stated that the officers were blindsided by the size and behavior of the group.
Video footage of the event, which Kober reviewed, depicts one officer being held down on the ground and kicked. According to Kober, the officer rose from the ground and pursued the individuals who had been assaulting him. He characterized this response as protective action and the standard expectation for police conduct during an attack.
The Cincinnati Police Department confirmed awareness of the incident via a statement sent to media outlets. The department said it is reviewing the details of the event and remains focused on the safety of its personnel and the local community. One arrest has been made in connection with the clash.
Kober indicated that additional arrests may follow as the investigation continues. The initial response involved two officers who are currently out of work but recovering from the physical trauma sustained during the confrontation with the crowd.
