One bullet struck a five-year-old girl in Detroit on Saturday night, leaving her hospitalized and her family searching for answers. Elvanya was in the back of the house on Iroquois Street when the projectile hit her.

Her brother, Elijah Martin, recalled the sequence of events to FOX 2. He said their mother heard two gunshots. The first was loud, and the second followed ten seconds later. At that point, Elvanya told her mother she believed she had been shot. The family rushed her to the hospital.

Martin noted that Elvanya is currently walking and has been removed from oxygen. He described the physical recovery as positive but acknowledged the emotional impact of the trauma. He asked where families can turn for children to simply be children after such an incident.

The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of Elvanya's necessary treatments. They are seeking financial support to manage the medical expenses associated with her recovery from the Halloween shooting.

Detroit police continue to investigate the incident. Officials stated they are making progress in the case. The department asked the public to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speakup with any information regarding the shooting.
