Dana Freers defeated Derek Boedeker by 2,446 votes to claim the open seat on the 39th District Court. The final count stood at 11,433 for Freers and 8,987 for Boedeker. The election took place Tuesday in the Fraser and Roseville areas.
Freers, a 47-year-old private practice attorney, won the six-year term that covers both communities. She replaces Judge Joseph Boedeker, who is stepping down. The retiring judge is the father of his runner-up.
A Macomb County native and graduate of Cousino High School in Warren, Freers lists several local affiliations. She is active with the Fraser Lions Club, the Fraser First Booster Club, and the Roseville Optimist Club. She also serves on the board of directors for Macomb County Community Mental Health. Freers is married to Patrick O’Dell, the Fraser Mayor Pro Tem.
In a questionnaire provided to C&G Newspapers, Freers cited two decades of legal practice and twenty-one years of community involvement as preparation for the role. She said she has handled various case types that come before district court judges. She described her work as helping neighbors weekly through local volunteer organizations.
Boedeker, 33, serves as an assistant prosecutor for Macomb County. He grew up in Roseville and currently resides in Fraser. He posted a thank-you message on social media Wednesday morning. He expressed pride in the campaign and gratitude for the endorsements from judges and elected officials. He stated that his commitment to the community and pursuit of justice remain unchanged.
Freers had not responded to requests for comment the morning after the election. The race determined the next leader for the court serving the Fraser and Roseville districts for the next six years.
