Adults in Alexandria can claim a $15 Lyft credit on Halloween weekend. The offer covers two specific nights to reduce the number of people driving after drinking.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program, known as WRAP, runs the free SoberRide initiative. It operates from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31. Residents must be 21 or older. They enter a code in the payment section of the Lyft app to activate the credit.

The codes appear at soberride.com at 9 p.m. on both dates. The service covers the City of Alexandria. It also includes parts of D.C., Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties. Coverage extends to Maryland’s Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and several nearby cities.

WRAP President Kurt Erickson cited National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data. He noted that 29.2% of U.S. traffic fatalities in 2024 involved a drunk driver. Erickson stated that 54% of deaths among 21 to 34-year-olds during 2019 and 2024 involved drunk drivers.

In 2025, 4,056 people in the D.C. region used the program during Halloween. WRAP has provided over 100,000 rides since 1991. The group also runs the service on major holidays like Super Bowl Sunday and the Fourth of July.

WRAP is also involved in Red Ribbon Week at Alexandria City Public Schools. That national drug prevention campaign runs from Oct. 23 to 31.
