Frontline Education notified Jefferson County Public Schools on Oct. 13 that a security flaw in its software exposed the personal records of more than 37,000 current and former employees. The breach included Social Security numbers, email addresses, and home addresses. JCPS confirmed the incident in a letter sent to affected staff.
The district uses Frontline to track job applicants, manage absences, and schedule substitute teachers. District leaders stated that JCPS’s internal computer network remained secure throughout the incident. Frontline first identified the vulnerability in mid-August but did not alert the school district until nearly two months later.
Frontline reported that it resolved the security flaw with assistance from an outside cybersecurity firm. The company also alerted federal authorities. As of the latest update, Frontline has found no signs of identity theft or data misuse. JCPS has notified the Kentucky State Police and the Attorney General’s Office while its internal investigation continues.
Frontline began mailing and emailing notices to affected workers in late October. The company offers two years of free credit monitoring through TransUnion. Employees can contact Frontline at 1-800-759-7279 for questions about the breach or enrollment.
