Residents in a Palm Beach County neighborhood watched a business jet tear through a residential road on Sunday, killing all nine people aboard. The impact left a crater-sized hole in the pavement near Cresthaven, scattering concrete and metal fragments across the street. Fire crews declared a mass casualty incident as they worked to contain the blaze.
The aircraft, identified as a Learjet 60, had departed Austin, Texas, and was en route to the Bahamas, according to the Federal Aviation Authority. The crash occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. Eastern Time, roughly nine miles from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s resort. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office pinpointed the location to Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy described the event as a horrific tragedy. He stated that the FAA is dispatching a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation. Duffy also urged the public to join him in praying for the families and loved ones of those lost in the accident.
Local authorities advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. The sheriff’s office has not yet released the names of the passengers or crew. It remains unclear if anyone on the ground was injured or killed in the impact. The scene remains active as investigators examine the debris field.
