Jack Campbell was moved to a local hospital for evaluation of a neck injury following the Detroit Lions' 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The linebacker was strapped to a backboard and carted off Ford Field after going limp during a defensive play in the fourth quarter.
The incident occurred on the first snap of the final period. Campbell and Eric O'Neill tackled Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. Campbell fell prone and moved his head up and down while pulling his body forward a few inches before trainers arrived. He remained on the field for about 10 minutes before being transported off.
Head coach Dan Campbell addressed reporters after the game. He stated that he had no further information on the player's status beyond the fact that he is receiving medical care. The team announced that the 26-year-old is being evaluated for a neck injury.
The scene on the field drew attention from the squad. The entire Lions team gathered to see their teammate off. The defensive unit also paused to rally after watching one of their leaders leave the game. Campbell had signed a four-year, $81 million extension six months prior, making him one of the highest-paid off-ball linebackers in the league.
Campbell entered the 2026 season as the Lions' first All-Pro selection. He recorded 176 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, and four passes defended in 2025. He earned his first Pro Bowl bid and a First Team All-Pro honor. In the current season, he had 57 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one fumble recovery through seven games.
He was selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Iowa. That selection came six picks after the Lions drafted running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
