Cam Wallace rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on Saturday as Penn State defeated Purdue 31-17 in State College. The victory marked the Nittany Lions' first win in Big Ten play under head coach Matt Campbell and snapped a four-game losing streak. It was the 12th consecutive victory for Penn State in this series.

Wallace had missed the bulk of the past two seasons due to broken bones in both legs. He entered the game with only 22 carries for 125 yards on the season. Following two weeks of practice where he became the focal point of the inside running attack, Wallace found his rhythm. He carried the ball just 22 times for 125 yards prior to the game, but his performance against Purdue shifted the momentum of the Nittany Lions' offense.

Penn State capitalized on a Purdue defense that ranked 119th in the nation. The Nittany Lions, who had not rushed for more than 100 yards since their opening loss to Wisconsin, recorded 269 rushing yards in this contest. Their average of 5.3 yards per carry dismantled a Boilermakers unit that struggled to contain the ground game.

Rocco Becht and Carson Hansen also found the end zone on the ground. Becht connected with Andrew Rappleyea for a short pass that capped Penn State's opening drive. Wallace later broke a 48-yard run that set up Becht for a six-yard score, giving Penn State a 14-7 lead. Purdue responded when quarterback Ryan Browne threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Townshend.

Jalil Hall tied the game at 14-14 with 8:52 remaining in the first half after returning a blocked punt 31 yards. The Boilermakers, seeking their first win over Penn State since 2004, could not stop the Nittany Lions on the next series. Penn State drove 65 yards, and Hansen crossed the goal line from one yard out to make it 21-14 at halftime.

The Penn State defense took control in the third quarter. Jamison Patton intercepted Browne at midfield, and Barker converted the turnover into a 44-yard field goal. Wallace added another score with under 10 minutes left, extending the lead to 31-14. Coach Matt Campbell noted that Wallace's resilience reflected the spirit the team needed.

Purdue coach Barry Odom acknowledged that Penn State's front seven was difficult to overcome. The Boilermakers were held to just 33 rushing yards. Purdue had previously allowed an average of 218 rushing yards per game in its four Big Ten games, but D'Anton Lynn's defense finally recorded a sack in conference play. The Boilermakers will host Maryland next Saturday, while Penn State travels to Washington.

Penn State finished the game with 269 rushing yards despite playing without star wideout Koby Howard and leading receiver Chase Sowell. The Nittany Lions had 22:05 of possession in the first half compared to Purdue's 7:55. They ran 20 more plays than the Boilermakers in the first two quarters. The final margin was 14 points, with Purdue's Jacobo Echeverria Lozano hitting a 49-yard field goal late in the game.
